SEVERAL WORLD AUCTION RECORDS WERE ACHIEVED AT DOYLE NEW YORK'S MAY 24, 2005 AUCTION OF MODERN, CONTEMPORARY, EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN ART

Auction Attracts Strong International Bidding

On May 24, 2005, Doyle New York held an auction of Modern, Contemporary, European and American Art showcasing works by prominent European, American, Latin American and Asian artists of the late 19th through 20th centuries. A feature of the auction was the fine art collection of William J. and Jean Hogan of Bronxville, New York (more). The auction attracted intense international competition from bidders in the salesroom competing against telephone, Internet and absentee bidders, which resulted in several new world auction records. The sale totaled $3,417,765, well over the pre-sale estimate of $2,203,100-3,184,200, with 91% sold by lot and 91% sold by value.

THE COLLECTION OF WILLIAM J. AND JEAN HOGAN
Doyle New York was honored to offer at auction the Collection of William J. and Jean Hogan of Bronxville, New York. The Hogan Collection was assembled predominantly during the 1950s through the 1970s and offers works by a number of prominent American and European artists. Jean Hogan studied nuclear physics and joined IBM in the 1950s, becoming one of the first female scientists at the firm. Mr. Hogan was a vice president at American Airlines, and acquired several of the works in the Hogan Collection directly from the corporate collection of American Airlines. After retiring from American Airlines in 1967, Mr. Hogan continued collecting and was for many years a regular presence at the exhibitions and auctions of Parke-Bernet. The Hogan Collection comprised works by Maurice Utrillo (lots 25 and 26), Marie Laurencin (lot 28), Maurice de Vlaminck (lot 29), Lyonel Feininger (lot 54), Julien Dupre (lot 74), Everett Shinn (lot 148), Frederick Judd Waugh (lots 169, 170 and 173), Luigi Lucioni (lot 183), and Ogden Minton Pleissner (lot 184).
