Doyle New York's Important Estate Jewelry auction on December 10, 2008 saw competitive bidding from hundreds of bidders in the salesroom, on the telephones, and on the Internet. Private buyers were noticeably very active at all levels of value, including the top lots of the auction. This competition between private buyers and dealers resulted in strong prices throughout the sale and a remarkable total of $2,254,656, with an outstanding 72% sold by lot and 74% by value.

Doyle New York is currently accepting consignments for the April 21, 2009 auction of Important Estate Jewelry. The sale will offer jewelry spanning the Antique, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modern eras by some of the world's most prestigious makers, including Cartier, David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany & Co. The necklace composed of twisted silver bands supporting a continuous fringe of stylized silver musical notes.
Length 20 1/2 inches.
This work was given to Mrs. William B. F. Drew as a wedding gift on June 20th, 1940. Mr. William B. F. Drew was a lifelong friend of Alexander (Sandy) Calder's and served as best man at Calder's wedding.
