On Tuesday, September 14 at 10am, Doyle New York will hold an auction of Important Estate Jewelry from a variety of prominent estates and collections. The sale will offer a dazzling array of jewelry spanning the Antique, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modern eras by some of the worldís most prestigious makers. The sale will also offer fine watches and objets de vertu, including elegant compacts, cigarette cases and cufflinks. Special sections of the auction will be devoted to the Alfred Cossidente Collection of Fine Pocket Watches and the John R. Boker, Jr. Collection of Modern Gold Coins. The public is invited to the exhibition on view from Saturday, September 11 through Monday, September 13. Doyle New York is located at 175 East 87th Street in Manhattan.

One of the highlights of the auction is a stunning ruby and diamond pendant/brooch centered by a cabochon ruby of approximately 83 carats known as The Star of Burma. This remarkable piece was advertised in 1935 by jewelers Trabert & Hoeffer, and was worn by Hollywood actress Joan Bennett in the film Vogues of 1938. Another dazzling lot is an impressive carved emerald and diamond necklace set with approximately 733 carats of emeralds. Certain to attract interest will be a variety of charming floral pins set with colored stones and diamonds by Cartier and David Webb. The sale also features elegant sapphire and diamond rings by Webb and Van Cleef & Arpels, and a group of fine jade jewelry. Featured in the assortment of fine watches are examples by Cartier, and an unusual gold, diamond and enamel pocket watch for the Indian market signed Hamilton & Co. London and Calcutta.

The Alfred Cossidente Collection comprises a wide variety of elegant European and American pocket watches dating from the 1820s through the 1920s created by some of the most prestigious names in horology. (more)

Cabochon Ruby and Diamond Pendant/Brooch
The platinum shield-shaped brooch set to the center with an oval cabochon ruby, approximately 83 cts., by formula, set at the bottom with three half-moon shaped diamonds, total approximately 4.50 cts., set throughout with assorted round diamonds, total approximately 10 cts., and assorted baguette-cut diamonds, total approximately 4 cts., accented at each top corner by a ruby bead, attributed to Trabert & Hoeffer, approximately 31.9 dwt.
