DOYLE NEW YORK ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER 16, 2004 AUCTION OF AN EXTENSIVE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF IMPORTANT COSTUME JEWELRY

Doyle New York is honored to offer an extensive private collection of important costume jewelry from Europe's preeminent collector. This extraordinary collection comprises almost 500 pieces of elegant costume jewelry and bijoux de couture representing every decade of the 20th century, and features both European and American designs. Many of the pieces have not been offered before and are fresh to the market. This superb collection reveals the unconventional and passionate taste of the collector -- an innovative woman interested in not only how these remarkable pieces capture the social, political and economic spirit their times, but also the individual spirit of the women who wore them.

Among the highlights dating to early decades of the 20th century are creations by Weiner Werkstatte, Kollmar and Jourdan, Maggy Rouf, Schiaparelli and Flamand. Mid century examples include a circa 1940 gilt metal necklace and bracelet by Josef of Hollywood for film actress Joan Crawford, as well as designs by Miriam Haskell, Dior, Balmain, Luciana, Gripoix for Pucci and Coppola & Toppo. More recent offerings in the collection include important pieces by Versace, Armani and Lagerfeld.
