Doyle New York will held an auction of Important English and Continental Furniture and Decorations, including Old Master Paintings and Drawings on May 14, 2008. The sale offered furniture and decorations from the 17th through early 19th centuries, as well as Continental, English and Chinese export porcelain, Georgian silver, sculpture, clocks, chandeliers, sconces, tapestries and rugs. The Old Master Paintings section of the sale offered landscapes, still lifes, portraits and religious subjects by European artists from the Renaissance to the 19th century.

George II Walnut Double Dome Bureau Bookcase
18th Century
In two sections, the upper section with a molded cornice above two mirror panel inset doors opening to reveal an interior fitted with compartments and drawers, raised on a lower section having a slant front writing lid enclosing a similar fitted interior, over three full drawers, raised on bracket feet.
Height 7 feet 3 inches (2.21 m), width 42 inches (1.07 m), depth 25 inches (64 cm).

Maker's mark RC, possibly Robert Cox, London, circa 1769-70
Each tapering standard of swirling and leafage design, surmounted by a similar socket, on a shaped circular base central engraved with an armorial and motto.

19th Century
The central bowl form tier with central leafage decoration supporting scrolling candle arms cresting in large circular drip pans hung with drops, the whole suspended from a leafage corona.
