Doyle New York will held an auction of Important English and Continental Furniture and Decorations, including Old Master Paintings and Drawings on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. The sale offered furniture and decorations from the 17th through early 19th centuries, as well as Continental, English and Chinese export porcelain, Georgian silver, sculpture, clocks, chandeliers, sconces, tapestries and rugs. The Old Master Paintings section of the sale offered landscapes, still lifes, portraits and religious subjects by European artists from the Renaissance to the 19th century. A special section of the sale showcased property from the collection of Ellin and Renny Saltzman. With competitive bidding from the crowded salesroom, the telephones and the Internet, the sale totaled $1,994,656, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $1,323,500-1,987,800 with 89% sold by lot and 93% sold by value.

PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF ELLIN AND RENNY SALTZMAN





Doyle New York was honored to offer property from the collection of two of America's most important style makers of the last 50 years, Ellin and Renny Saltzman. Educated at New York University and the New York School of Interior Design, Renny Saltzman (1930-2000) established his famed decorating firm in 1955 and over the years designed houses, planes, yachts and other projects for such prominent figures as Claudette Colbert, Candice Bergen and Louis Malle, Dorothy Schiff, and Charles Revson. A graduate of Smith College, Ellin Saltzman worked at Conde Nast for ten years, first at Mademoiselle, then Glamour. Shifting to fashion retailing, she later became senior vice president corporate fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue, the Macy's chain of stores, Bergdorf Goodman, Limited.com brands, and currently, fashion director at Bluefly.com. The Saltzman Collection comprised approximately 180 lots of furniture, decorations and fine art in the October 24 auction.
