THE COLLECTION OF LEGENDARY INTERIOR DECORATOR KEITH IRVINE AUCTIONED AT DOYLE NEW YORK ON OCTOBER 22, 2008

Over 200 Lots of Elegant Furniture, Decorations and Paintings

On October 22, 2008, Doyle New York held an auction of the collection of acclaimed interior decorator Keith Irvine, founder of the design firm Irvine & Fleming. Comprising over 200 lots of elegant furniture, decorations and paintings, the sale attracted strong interest from private collectors, social figures, prominent dealers, and interior decorators. With competitive bidding from buyers in the salesroom, on the telephones, and via the Internet, the collection totaled $320,775 against an estimate of $207,145-329,780.

Born in Scotland, Mr. Irvine began his life in design as assistant to the legendary decorator John Fowler at London's Colefax & Fowler. In New York, he worked for another design legend, Sister Parish, before opening his own firm in 1959, where he was later joined by Thomas Fleming. Over the past four decades, Mr. Irvine has worked with an elite clientele to create unique, inspired interiors throughout the world. His fearless use of color and scrupulous attention to detail has ensured his place at the forefront of the interior design field.
