DOYLE NEW YORK AUCTIONED THE COSTUME JEWELRY COLLECTION OF SAN FRANCISCO DESIGNER AND PHILANTHROPIST ANN GETTY ON OCTOBER 7, 2008

Featuring Extraordinary Creations by Iradj Moini, Chanel, Kenneth Jay Lane, Miriam Haskell and Others

On October 7, 2008, Doyle New York auctioned costume jewelry from the collection of San Francisco designer and philanthropist Ann Getty. The collection featured extraordinary pieces by such makers as Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Iradj Moini, Kenneth Jay Lane, Miriam Haskell, de Lillo, Hobe and others. Highlighting the Getty Collection was a dramatic Iradj Moini tasseled pearl necklace that achieved $6,250 - several times its pre-sale estimate of $1,000-1,500.

With strong competition from the crowded salesroom and international bidders via the telephones and Internet, the entire auction (including property from Ann Getty, Brigid Berlin and others) totaled $191,981 -- doubling the pre-sale estimate of 69,205-103,615 with virtually 100% of the lots sold.

THE ANN GETTY COLLECTION

Doyle New York is honored to offer costume jewelry from the Collection of Ann Getty. A renowned art collector and philanthropist, Ann Getty is also founder and President of Ann Getty & Associates, a San Francisco-based residential interior design firm with a global clientele. Mrs. Getty travels around the world working with designers, craftsman and artisans commissioning works for her clients. Comprising almost 60 lots in the auction and spanning mostly the 1950s - 1990s, the costume jewelry in Ann Getty's collection reflects her remarkably international outlook and interest in exotic design. The individual pieces reveal a striking confidence with scale and an almost painterly sense of color layering. Designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Iradj Moini, Miriam Haskell, Stanley Hagler, William de Lillo, Trifari, Kenneth Jay Lane, Isabel Canovas, Hobe, Dominique Aurientis and others are represented at their most exuberant in terms of design, scale and color.

COSTUME JEWELRY FROM OTHER COLLECTIONS

Property from other collections in the auction featured a stunning 1960s Gripoix parure that achieved $5,625, as well as more recent Haute Couture pieces by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.

THE BRIGID BERLIN COLLECTION

The first session of the auction will showcase costume jewelry from the collection of artist and socialite Brigid Berlin. More.
