International Bidding Throughout the Sale, With 95% Sold by Lot and 100% by Value


On May 5, 2010, Doyle New York held a highly successful auction of European Art. The sale showcased works by a wide variety of prominent European artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Featured in the sale was property from the Estate of Sonja Caron Stein and the Estate of Albert H. Gordon. The top lot of the auction was The Little Cowboy by Russian artist Nicolai Fechin from the Stein Estate, which fetched a staggering $632,500 -- more than doubling the pre-sale estimate of $200,000-300,000. With competitive international bidding from the salesroom, the telephones and the Internet, the sale totaled $2,673,898 -- far surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $1,158,000-1,784,000, with a stunning 95% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
