Doyle New York will hold an auction of Coins, Bank Notes and Postage Stamps on November 1, 2010. The sale will offer a wide selection of United States and World coins, bank notes, and stamps, including proof sets and many rarities. NEWBURGH NATIONAL NUMBER 1 BANK NOTES
A Highlight of the bank notes will be a recent discovery of Large and Small Size National Bank Notes from the Orange County Bank of Newburgh, Highland-Quassaick, Charter # 1106. Original chartered in 1865, with titles one and two, then again in 1926 and 1927, with a third title, of which there are NINE with serial number 1, including a $20 Plain Back, Fr. 650. There are also two uncut sheets of Small size, which we believe to be previously unknown. They are a sheet of 6 of the $5 Serial # A000002A-F00000A and a sheet of 6 of the $20 Serial # A000001-A000006 Condition throughout is excellent with possibly the finest known notes of this issue , such as the $10, Plain Back, Fr. 624.

This example of the pattern or die trial, as listed in Kagin, is in excellent condition. Showing a rim nick on the reverse, possibly from a previous metal testing, this example is pale yellow in color with overall strong eye appeal.

Serial no. B4 Star, well centered and Choice Uncirculated note with crisp, clean paper quality and strong pale rose seal, highly attractive and desirable with a low serial no.

Highland-Quassaick National Bank & Trust Company of Newburgh. Charter # 1106. Serial no. 1. Plate letter A. Third title. The census reports only two other $20 notes bearing this title and both of those are no better than Fine. The present example is the only know serial no.1 $20 large size on this Orange County bank. Almost Uncirculated with boldly penned signatures, pleasing blue seal and serial numbers. The note is trimmed close at the top and bottom with a light fold that extends diagonally down from the upper left corner through the portrait and a very light bend near the center.

Highland-Quassaick National Bank and Trust Company of Newburgh, Chater 1106, Serial nos. A000001-A000006. Essentially Uncirculated all six examples are nicely centered. Folded horizontally through the gutters between each note, some light intermediate folds and a light pencil notation in the gutter between the last two notes. First sheet with this title and denomination reported on this desirable Orange County National Bank. Only a low grade single example appears on the census.

Strong collection in one Specialty album, early issues to 1881 are used including Scott #1, 26 with interesting manuscript marking, mint issues commence with 1893 Columbian 1 c., 2c., 3 c., 4 c., 6 c., a near jumbo 10 c., 30 c. and a part o.g. $2; fresh lightly hinged 1895 $1 type 1; 1898 Trans-Mississippi with nice 1 c., 5 c., 10 c. and $1; scattering of Washington Franklins and commemoratives of the period; Fine Never Hinged copies of # 480, 525 and 573, Plate blocks of # 617-619; a F/VF White Plains souvenir sheet, Kansas/Nebraska sets. There after regulars and Commems are virtually complete. Air Post Include C1-6, C10a pane and full booklet of three panes, fresh Fine to Very Fine 1930 Zeppelin set of three, C18 single and block of four. The collection is a rounded off by the 1919 Shanghai series 2 c. to $2 being Fine to Very Fine lightly hinged. A highly desirable and useful collection with the majority being Fresh and Fine to Very Fine.
