EISENSTAEDT, ALFRED (1898-1995)
Drum major and children, University of Michigan.
Gelatin silver print, image 1951, printed later. Image 15 1/4 x 18 3/4 inches (387 x 478 mm), signed in ink at l.r. below image, titled by Eisenstaedt on reverse, with "Photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt" stamp. Image in fresh condition.
Fine example of one of Eisenstaedt's signature images.

Estimate $4,000  - $6,000

EVANS, WALKER (1903-1975)
Breakfast room, Belle Grove Plantation, White Chapel, Louisiana
. Gelatin silver print on card mount, image 10 1/4 x 13 inches (259 x 328 mm); taken 1935, printed 1972, inscribed below image in pencil at l.l. "For John Deeks with much appreciation W.E." and signed in full by Walker Evans at l.r. Image and mount in fine condition.
This luminous photograph was prepared for the Double Elephant Press portfolio Walker Evans: Selected Photographs, where it was plate 3. John Deeks, to whom it is inscribed, worked with Lee Friedlander in preparing the prints. The portfolio was limited to 75 copies, though this image presumably falls out of series, as it is not numbered.

Estimate $4,000  - $6,000

DE MEYER, BARON ADOLPH (1868-1949)
Woman with Plumed Hat (Marthe Regnier)
. Gelatin silver print, 14 x 11 inches (354 x 280 mm), taken circa 1915, printed 1940, signed in pencil in the margin; Eastman Kodak enlargement stamp and title in pencil on the verso. Image and mount in fine condition, archival cloth hinges and a tiny mounted label on verso.
The present print is one of a group that de Meyer prepared for a 1940 exhibition held at the home of the actor Edward G. Robinson (a noteworthy collector of modern art). Unable to locate vintage examples of many of his images, de Meyer prepared enlargements from his negatives on large sheets of Eastman Kodak paper, hence the Kodak stamp on the verso. The quality of Kodak's printing is excellent, and the resulting print is far larger than most of the photographer's vintage work, while preserving its aesthetic qualities.

Estimate $2,000  - $3,000
