PLATT LYNES, GEORGE (1907-1955)
Collection of 33 photographs of members of Lincoln Kirstein's circle
. Vintage silver gelatin prints, most stamped "George Platt Lynes" verso, at various addresses, some with his blind stamp, and a few also with the Vogue Studios ink stamp; most 9 x 7 inches (228 x 182 mm) or larger.
Subjects include E. M. Forster and Robert Bishop; Paul Cadmus and his sister Fidelma ("Fido"), with a long series of rather glamorous portraits of the latter. The collection also includes images of George Tooker, Paul Cadmus and Jared French, most notably an almost familial shot of the three of them painting (a copy of this print is also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). One image (in a group of three) of the Argentinean writer Maria Rose Oliver is inscribed by her "To Fido and to Lincoln, my 'brother in the devil,' with nostalgia of 225 East 74th."
