Lot 2027
Shepard Fairey American, b. 1970 Muhammad Ali Color screenprint, 2006, signed and numbered 37/300 in pencil, unframed. 18 x 24 inches RISD graduate Fairey was already beloved in the skateboard and punk rock communities for his legendary "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" stickers, and the subsequent silkscreen prints made for his company Obey. Then, for Obama's 2008 election, Fairey created the "Hope" poster, which became one of the most recognizable and iconic political images of modern times. That poster, after gracing the cover of Time Magazine, now hangs in the National Portrait Gallery, helping Fairey cross over from seminal Street Artist to internationally recognized fine artist.
