COOLIDGE, CASSIUS M.[ARCELLUS]. Daddy Gander. Written and illustrated by C. M. Coolidge New York: C. M. Coolidge, circa 1915. Original ruled notebook, backed in leather, with a hand-drawn label with the title on the upper cover. 8 1/8 inches (20 cm). Title page, typed introduction (with the above date, although in it Coolidge states that he began the collection ten years earlier). 50 leaves follow, each with two drawings by Coolidge, with accompanying nursery-rhyme texts. Spine almost entirely eroded, title leaf detached, other wear, but unique. A delightful collection of slightly addled nursery rhymes, some of considerable ingenuity. Provenance: Marcella Coolidge, daughter of the artist, by descent from the estate of the artist.
