THE ANN GETTY HOUSE COLLECTION

Ann Getty is the founder and President of Ann Getty and Associates, a San Francisco-based residential interior design firm providing luxury design services and custom furniture and accessories. Mrs. Getty leads a talented team of designers and artisans who create gracious living environments with a focus on the finest materials, the preservation of antiques, and respect for both architectural integrity and the unique personality of the client. Mrs. Getty is a designer fluent in various styles and periods. She travels the world in order to work with the manufacturers, designers, craftsman and dealers involved in commissioning works for her clients. Inspired by the outstanding pieces in Mrs. Getty’s personal collection, as well as her own extensive travels and design studies, she has introduced the Ann Getty House Collection. Using Old World craftsmanship of extraordinary quality, the collection features intricately detailed pieces that exhibit superb carving, gilding, upholstery and finishing techniques.

 


TIFFANY IN FASHION

A fascinating story of fashion, fame, photography and fabulous jewels comes vividly alive on the glossy pages of Tiffany in Fashion: A Study of American Fashion and Fashion Photography by John Loring, Design Director of Tiffany & Co. With a historian’s eye for the architects of American fashion, and an insider’s knowledge of the personalities on both sides of the camera, Mr. Loring chronicles the story of fashion’s move from Paris to New York, the rise of fashion photography, and Tiffany jewelry as fashion accessory. This lavishly illustrated book, published by Harry N. Abrams, features seventy years of images by the world’s greatest fashion photographers, including Edward Steichen, Richard Avedon, Victor Skrebneski, Francesco Scavullo, Hiro and Patrick Demarchelier, as well as essays by legendary fashion arbiter Eleanor Lambert and the dean of American fashion designers, James Galanos. The book signing will take place at a special exhibition of Doyle New York’s auctions of Couture, Textiles and Accessories and Important Estate Jewelry.

JAMES VAN SWEDEN
Architecture in the Garden

Internationally acclaimed landscape architect James van Sweden pioneered the revolutionary and influential “New American Garden Style” with its rich use of ornamental grasses. The author of Gardening with Nature and Gardening with Water, Mr. Van Sweden designed the gardens for New York’s Hudson River Park and the forthcoming World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, as well as private gardens for Oprah Winfrey and others. He will share insights into his latest book, Architecture in the Garden, and reveal the secrets of how to plan and build a garden like a professional. Palm Beach – An Architectural Legacy, the lavish new book by Polly Anne Earl, Executive Director of the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, details the meticulous restorations of more than twenty great houses and public buildings on the “American Riviera.” Each house has won the Preservation Foundation's prestigious Ballinger Award. In her slide lecture, Ms. Earl will chronicle the superb renovations of these public and private structures which give Palm Beach its distinctive architectural heritage. Mademoiselle Chanel chose her luxurious Paris mansion to present her first Fine Jewelry collection on November 7, 1932. Seventy years later, the CHANEL Fine Jewelry collection thrives today. Arlette Thebault, Executive Director of Special Projects for CHANEL will present the history of this collection including Coco Chanel's love of jewels and the many elements of her life that continue to inspire and influence the collection today.

FRIDA KAHLO

Hayden Herrera’s two acclaimed books on Mexican painter Frida Kahlo reveal a woman of extreme originality and sensual vibrancy. From Kahlo’s childhood during the Mexican revolution to her tempestuous marriage to Diego Rivera and love affairs with Isamo Noguchi and Leon Trotsky, Ms. Herrera will explore the life and works of this extraordinary 20th Century woman in a slide lecture and book signing co- sponsored with Harper Collins. The talk precedes the much anticipated Miramax film, Frida, starring Salma Hayek, which is scheduled to premiere the next day.
